Light In the Wilderness
PREREQUISITES: 14 years old or older
CONTENT: Come join us on this grand adventure. This class will give you opportunities to be outside in nature participating in some amazing activities such as backpacking, rock climbing and other adventures. Youth will gain confidence as they use physical experiences to teach and learn emotional preparedness and survival skills. In class we will be focusing on the Level Up curriculum to grow our emotional self reliance. We will also learn and grow as we process our outdoor activities through preparedness and survival activities. This class will ultimately help youth gain the confidence to accomplish their life’s mission and help others around them to do the same.
All of these skills will better prepare our youth to be more physically and emotionally self reliant. As one outdoor wilderness counselor said “I have spent so many years in the wilderness and have watched youths’ lives change, saw them grow into the amazing people God intended them to be. “
This class will include elements of Biology and a strong emphasis on Psychology and Sociology.
EXPECTATIONS: This class will have no required outside of class work. There will be invitations to teach family members what the class is learning in class and some reading of the Level Up curriculum. This class will also have a beginning of year backpacking trip September 8-10. It will also include an end of year outdoor adventure and possible midwinter adventure also. Once a month the class will also possibly go on adventures that will cover lunch time, class time and occasionally beyond the class time, but usually they will be back by the end of the Rise Up
MATERIALS: Books, awards and outdoor adventures are included in tuition. Some food and equipment for multi day outdoor adventure activities will not be included in tuition. (ex. It will be your responsibility to provide a backpack for the backpacking trip.)
