ONE STEP AHEAD
PREREQUISITES: 2 years of Shakespeare Conquest, not enrolled in Shakespeare at the same time or mentor approval.
CONTENT: First semester we will explore the ability to communicate well with others, collaborate, and expand our comfort zone and emotional IQ through vocal and physical movement and expression. We will also read previously written and write our own contemporary dramatic literature. Youth will prepare pieces from this literature to share with the class and others in the commonwealth.
Throughout the year during the second hour of each class with these practiced communication skills and a culture of support for one another, we will have youth participate in a youth council that will create and carry out activities and service events for the youth and children of the commonwealth. Some examples might be dances, sports activities, serving at a food shelter, lunch time activities with the juniors, etc. This will continue year round. The leadership opportunity this provides will be to such a level that will allow the youth to add this opportunity to a resume and college application.
During 2nd semester the youth will take all of this that they have learned throughout 1st semester and lead the creation of a play or musical that will be performed sometime during the semester. Students will be directors, set builders, financial producers, music producers, film producers and editors, actors, stage managers, etc. for the production. This will be completely student led. Throughout this semester the class will visit professionals in the fields of music production, film, construction, finance and other professional fields that could pertain to the play in order to learn more about these professions.
*Estimated workload outside of class: 1-2 hours each week.
Books and materials: Books and Materials are included with tuition
