RISE AND THRIVE: Leadership and Business
AGE RECOMMENDATION: 14 years and older
CONTENT: This class will be combining concepts from LEMI’s “Edison Project” and “Georgics” with the focus on Entrepreneurship and Leadership through THREE main goals:
FIRST: Community Stewardship will be one of the themes as we plan several Rise Up community activities throughout the year. These activities will be planned by the scholars in the class with the primary focus of helping Rise Up bond as a community. SECOND: Another theme of this class will be to improve leadership and communication skills through simulations and debriefs, presentations (the scholars will sign up to do several 5-10 minute presentations throughout the year), learning from professionals, field trips and hands on activities.
THIRD: Finally, we will be skill building and business building. The Scholars will “skill-build” in the first semester, then second semester create and execute a business plan for an entrepreneurship experience.
COMMITMENTS: The Scholars in the class will have 3-4 hours of “homework” time per week which will include reading, presentation preparation, event planning, completing above and beyond work, knowledge/skill building and business goals.
We will be reading a total of 7 books with Georgics principles as the goal with each book:
