Marine Biology and Oceanography

Winter Semester Class: January - April
Format: Online Class
Adventure Learning Add-On: In the Spring the Scholar may choose to participate in a Field Trip to Stay Aboard and Old Fashioned Brigantine Sailing Ship for 4 Nights and 3 Days. During the field trip the scholars will participate in rigging and sailing the ship, learn about marine biology in the San Diego area, enjoy snorkeling and swimming in the ocean, and create strong friendships.
Online Class Content: Students meet online once a week to discuss topics of marine biology, ship history, American history, geography, sea flora and fauna, navigation, pulleys, levers, and books and videos connected to these subjects.
Continuing with the maritime theme, class students will be divided into "crews," and crew leaders will be chosen. Crew leaders will help lead certain parts of the class discussion and activities. Each class will discuss and report on that week's resources. Students must have access to a computer.
There are 24 spots in this class and it is for ages 12-17.
Note: If desired, sign up for a on-board a ship simulation: stay aboard an old fashioned brigantine sailing ship for 4 nights and 3 days exact date to be announced. (Additional Cost if you choose to participate in the Adventure Learning Add-On (Field Trip).

- Cost for field trip is an additional $250
- Enrollment in Marine Biology and Oceanography Class is required to be enrolled in the Adventure Learning Add-on
