PROFESSOR DIGORY
Ages: 6-11 (Love of Learning)
TIME:
CONTENT: Follow Professor Digory into the Magical World of Learning and Exploration. In this world, we will participate in a creative and hands-on learning environment. Each class will be filled with experiments, art projects, engaging books and physical activities.
The day will fly by as we ask "WHY?" and try to discover the genius in each child. Our class will have three focuses each week: "I Wonder" where we ask "Why?" and learn how the world around us works; "Find Your Genius" where the children will be encourage to spend time at variety of interesting activities; and PE (such as gymnastics).
We will also go on field trips; invite special guests (such as magicians and animal shows); participate in a theater production; have a box car derby; and each child will have the opportunity to present in the Great Brain exhibition. We will study the human body; the animal kingdom; gratitude and service; Aesop's Fables; U.S. Presidents; and Physics (energy, gravity and things that move).
This class will be a lot of fun, but it will be geared towards children interested in a Love of Learning environment (a little bit more structure than Core Phase). Reading is not required to participate in this class (but a portion of each class will include listening to reading from a fantastic book). I LOVE teaching this age and I am so excited to go on this journey with your child.
Our projects will fulfill requirements in the follow subjects: STEM, history, theater, PE, art and beginning writing (very beginning).
Homework for this class will be minimal and include: an Animal Presentation (3-5 Minutes: Fall Semester), practice saying one line or doing an action for our play (Winter), and preparing a Great Brain Exhibit (5-7 Minutes: Spring Semester). The time needed to prepare for each of these homework assignments should be about 30 minutes TOTAL for EACH project. All other projects will be completed in class.
