Science & Math Philosophy/STEM
SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, MATHEMATICS, LOGIC AND REASONING
PYRAMID PROJECT

AGE RECOMMENDATION: 14 Years and Older
CONTENT: Scholars will study logic, the language of math, the characteristics of a scientist, and do document studies. They will learn to apply the language of math and the scientific method to their core books and are encouraged to "wonder." In addition, they are taught to follow lines of logic, apply the characteristics of a scientist to discover and apply truth, experiment, and make commitments to studying math consistently and with more vigor. They are given opportunities to give presentations and participate in math and science experiments and simulations. This is a STEM class as well as a math and science philosophy class.
MATERIALS: Books, supplies, and awards included with tuition
- PREREQUISITES: An Apprentice Scholar Class - Mentor Approval Required

PHYSICS
In this class scholars will explore physics in the world around them and study how natural laws create order and patterns. Students will learn how math concepts are connected with physics and investigate real-life physics problems through experimentation. Students will discover as they study force, acceleration, Newton's Laws of Motion, waves, and energy. They will complete experiments that deal with classical mechanics in physics. They will learn about foundational principles and the scientist that discovered these scientific rules. Most importantly we hope that this class will begin a life long love and fascination with such an interesting field of study.

CHEMISTRY
Did you know that Chemistry is everywhere in the world around us? Chemistry is in the foods we eat, in the air we breathe, and helps create the world in which we live. In this class, scholars will learn about chemistry by observing it in their daily experiences. Mentors will help the scholars explore the periodic table, learn about matter, energy, atoms and electrons. We will learn about metabolism, state of matter and chemical reactions. This class will involve a lot of hands on learn through experimentation and using the scientific method to study different variables. One of the highlights will be student's final project to create and carry-out several experiments to learn how principles of chemistry can affect the food we eat.

MODERN TECHNOLOGY
In this class we will study the process of noticing a problem and finding solutions to that problem. We will study some of the amazing inventions of our day from the modern computer to the creation of a zipper (seriously who thought of that... genius). We will study the habits of these inventors and integrate them into our study as we do many hand on experiments in which we learn how to build different simple machines and more complex engineering structures. We will study principles of structural and mechanical engineering. This class will be very hands on in the application process.
