This course combines key concepts from LEMI’s Edison Project and Georgics, with a strong focus on entrepreneurship and leadership. Learning is organized around three core goals:
1. Community Stewardship
Scholars plan and lead Rise Up community activities throughout the year, with an emphasis on strengthening connection, service, and shared responsibility within the commonwealth.
2. Leadership & Communication
Scholars build leadership skills through simulations, debriefs, and multiple short presentations (5–10 minutes). Learning is supported through hands-on activities, field trips, and direct interaction with professionals in a variety of fields.
3. Skill-Building & Entrepreneurship
During the first semester, scholars focus on developing practical skills. In the second semester, they apply those skills by creating and executing a real-world business plan as part of an entrepreneurship experience.
Scholars should expect to spend approximately 3–4 hours per week outside of class on reading, presentation preparation, event planning, skill development, and Above and Beyond work tied to personal and business goals.
Scholars will read seven books, each aligned with a core Georgic principle:
Shaking the Nickel Bush — Entrepreneurship
Do Hard Things — Mission
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (YA Edition) — Community Stewardship
Atomic Habits — Self-Mastery
The Richest Man in Babylon — Ownership & Stewardship
The Go-Giver — Interdependence
Where the Mountain Meets the Moon — Forgiveness & Gratitude
This class runs from September through December.
